Chairperson National Elections Commission
Honorable Professor Abednego Akok Kacuol is the Honorable Chairperson of the National Elections Commission. Professor Kacuol was born in Yirol (Mapagic village), Lakes State, Sudan in 1955. He conducts the overall supervision of the NEC and presides over all Board of Commissioner meetings.
His impressive academic background laid the groundwork for his career in public and community service. Hon. Prof. Abednego holds a Ph.D. in Public Administration from the University of Khartoum, Sudan where he graduated in 2003. Professor Kacuol taught at the University of Juba from 1993, until he became the Dean of Student Affairs in 1997. Between 2000 – 2006, he served as Director at the Center for Peace and Development Studies. From 1990-2011, he held various positions including UNESCO Chairperson for Peace; the Deputy Chairperson of the University of Juba, member of the National Breast Cancer Foundation of South Sudan, and was a member of the sovereign Technical Committee of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of the Sudan.
First appointed as Chairman in August 2012, Professor Kacuol represents the NEC in both national and international functions to ensure the Commission’s role in fostering and strengthening the democratic process in South Sudan.
