Juba, South Sudan – From October 8 to 11, 2024, the Crown Hotel in Juba hosted an induction workshop for members of the State High Election Committees (SHECs). This four-day event, organized by the National Election Commission (NEC) with support from the United Nations Integrated Electoral Assistance Team (UN IEAT), aimed to enhance the skills and knowledge of SHEC members in election management and procedures.
The workshop featured a series of presentations, discussions, group work, and interactive sessions. NEC officials delivered 13 structured presentations covering various aspects of the electoral process, including the NEC structure, code of conduct for NEC staff, legal framework, electoral systems of South Sudan, and gender and inclusion. Each session was designed to address the specific responsibilities of the participants, ensuring they are well-prepared for their roles in upcoming elections.
Participants engaged actively in the sessions, with time allocated for questions and discussions after each presentation. This interactive approach helped attendees gain a deeper understanding of the content and feel more confident in their roles.
Rating: 48 out of 50 respondents (96%) expressed satisfaction, with 27 being “Very Satisfied” and 21 “Satisfied.” Only two participants rated the workshop as “Neutral” or “Very Dissatisfied.”. The high satisfaction rate suggests that the workshop was well-received by the majority of participants.
The feedback reflects a high level of participant satisfaction, with favorable ratings across all evaluation criteria. The workshop’s content, facilitation, and engagement strategies were well-received, leading to positive learning outcomes and confidence in knowledge application. Areas for potential improvement include addressing the small percentage of participants who rated aspects as “Neutral” or below.
The workshop successfully provided SHEC members with the foundational knowledge needed for effective and coordinated management of electoral activities. A detailed report of the workshop, including discussions and outputs, is available in the Induction Workshop report.
